Iran’s annual shoe production stands at 250m pairs
TEHRAN – Iranian shoe manufacturers produce 250 million pairs of shoes every year, the head of the Association of Managers and Experts of Iranian Shoe Industry (ASSOMES) said.
“There is the potential to improve the production in the country, but some issues, and challenges especially with regard to the sanctions, have caused an interruption in the growth of the shoe industry,” Mohammad Arab told IRIB.
“Currently, Iranian shoes are produced with modern technologies and we supply 100 percent of the country’s needs, for example, polyurethane and synthetic leather materials are produced in different types in the country, and despite inflation and foreign currency fluctuations, there has been no change in the price of raw materials,” Arab said.
Pointing to the consumption of domestic raw materials by the producers, the official added: “Currently, despite the fact that the import tariffs on raw materials has not changed we do not have any imports. Fortunately, producers have turned to domestic raw materials.”
